Sometimes in Prague needs a little love!

Chance Encounter: Tegan McDuffie

"Go," says Tegan McDuffie during Sometimes in Prague. "Go. Go. Go." You'll never hear her say it, though. BECAUSE SHE'S BEHIND YOU.

We talk to our intrepid Stage Manager about Bulgaria, thickening blood, and clever ways to avoid math tests.

Describe your ideal relationship.

Ideal means adventure, security and sacrifice- one of us wakes up at 2:15AM and wants to hop the N to Coney Island to see the moonlit beach, regardless of the 10 o’clock work call in a few hours, the other will probably say ‘yes’. That ideal relationship, for me, would also include many books read aloud over hot chocolate and a goal to travel to all fifty states together.

What's the most unlikely way you've ever made a friend?

When I was in first grade, I wet my pants to avoid taking a math a test and the girl who sat across from me offered support by nodding frantically and pointing at me when the teacher asked if something was wrong. We had a pretty interesting relationship after that.

Another passenger attempts to engage you on public transportation. Is this ever not creepy? And how would you know?

It’s not creepy if the other person is helping you in some way- say, if you fall over in a really busy train car and are helped up or grabbed onto or something, which has happened to me before. Other than that though, it’s pretty creepy which is a real pity because where else do you have such close contact with so many strangers? It could be the ultimate friend-finding pool. There’s an ideal amount of  time to exchange introductions and contact information between stops, but our social norms would have to be in a very different place for that to be acceptable. Everyone is usually so closed off and jumpy.

What song makes you want to dance more than any other?

Tough question…this week it’s Lily Allen’s “Alfie”.

Do you think it's possible to love more than one person at a time?

Without a doubt.

Your thoughts on marriage in six syllables or fewer.

Delicate tradition.

When do you know you're in love?

Not a metaphor: I can actually feel my blood thicken in my veins, like honey or maple syrup. It lasts for about an hour, and after that I just know; it becomes an undeniable fact. It’s happened three times in my life.

The most private thing you're willing to admit is:

I didn’t know how to masturbate until I was almost 20 years old. Most of the guys I know started when they were twelve.

What's the most intense experience you've ever had in a foreign country?

I visited Perperikon in Bulgaria, the alleged remains of Dionysus’ holy temple. It is about an hour and a half to reach the top of the ruins, walking, and on a 5 lev bet (about $2) I raced a friend down the curving path to the bottom in 7 minutes or so. It was the most sure I’ve ever been that I was definitely-without- a-doubt going to die but couldn’t stop because my feet could barely keep up with my body as I essentially fell down the mountain.
Bulgaria in general was just a really intense place for me.
As for the bet? I lost.

People should see Sometimes in Prague because:
Because it is a show built for love by people who love it. And it's going to be a damn good time.

Chance Encounter: Danielle Sacks

Melissa is counting down to her wedding, eight days from the events in Sometimes in Prague. In what's either a staggering bit of method acting or an awesome coincidence, Danielle Sacks, who's playing Melissa, is getting married in something like ten days! In real life!

We talk to her about love and love and love and love and love (and love).

Describe your ideal relationship.
What I have now: ever changing, developing, growing, forming new shapes, passion, loyalty, unconditional and ever-present love and respect.

Another passenger attempts to engage you on public transportation. Is this ever not creepy? And how would you know?
Depends on the person. Usually I am quiet and like to watch. I don't like being watched. that sounds creepy huh?

What song makes you want to dance more than any other?
Sir Duke. Vehicle. They all Laughed. Last Dance for Mary Jane. I need a little Sugar. Any blues singer from the 20's. Anything by Miss Ella. And Motion City Soundtrack… I won't disown those teenage experiences ever. SO MANY ! Billy Joel, Christina....

Do you think it's possible to love more than one person at a time?
I believe there are many different types of love that really can't be compared. On August 7th I am getting married. He is the only person that will ever receive my most intimate and personal love and to me, that intimacy, privacy and faith will be forever nurtured and cared for.

Your thoughts on marriage in six syllables or fewer.
I am so excited. Holy Shit. [ed. note: that's nine, but we'll give you a pass!)

When do you know you're in love?
You just do. You don't really realize you breathe… it just happens… you don't really realize when something organic in your life has taken bloom.. it just happens and when you recognize it, grab, grasp, hold on tight. ( I am talking about friends, lovers, new connections with family)

What's the most intense experience you've ever had in a foreign country?
-Learning a language specifically to communicate with my fiance's parents and family…
-Driving around the mountains of Brazil and stopping EVERYWHERE

People should see Sometimes in Prague because:
It will open your eyes to look through a different lens, question your belief and value system. Re-define your pre determined definitions.

Opened. ROCKED. Danced our asses off.

Chance Encounter: Leah Goldstein

As Joanna, Leah Goldstein plays a "vagabond afloat" -- traveling from place to place and trying to be more spontaneous in life.

Settled down in her bedroom, she talks to us (videos! shiny!) about checklists, talking to a wall, and Disney theme songs. She does not talk about what it's like existing in a mirror-image universe.

Chance Encounter: Joshua William Gelb

"I hate small talk," Joshua William Gelb has the character Ryan proclaim. "I'd rather instantly converse with the intimacy of lovers, you know?"

We talk with him about intimacy, about lovers, and about his request that we put right up front here that his mother is not going to want to read this.

Cam Gelb: you have thus been warned!

Describe your ideal relationship.

I hold romantic monogamy up to a high standard. I crave it. I aspire to it. When I was 13 and the internet’s sole purpose was the distribution of pornography, I would scour chat rooms looking for X-rated cartoons of Disney Princesses. The spoon-fed fantasy of happily-ever-after was far more erotically exciting to me than an actually naked woman. I think this might still be the case.

Another passenger attempts to engage you on public transportation. Is this ever not creepy? And how would you know?

Once I noticed a woman holding a La Traviata program on the A train. I tried to talk to her about Verdi and she looked at me like I was going to rape her. This was so discouraging that I don’t make the effort anymore.

When do you know you're in love?

Some people are suspicious of the love-at-first-sight concept. They say it’s shallow, or too saccharine, or dopamine enhanced, or that it speaks to some fate-driven model of love, like saying she/he is “the one”. Personally, I think the potential for love can be obviously apparent within moments of encountering a person. There may not be harpists playing arpeggios, but there’s some miniature corporeal equivalent.

The most private thing you're willing to admit is:

My penis is named Pablo. Long story.

What's the most intense experience you've ever had in a foreign country?

I was in a hostel in Switzerland the day that Norwegian Mohammad-Cartoon Controversy broke. Found myself arguing the case with a beautiful local girl at the hostel bar. We got drunk, got high… Ended up snorting some unknown substances at a club nearby, dancing my ass off with her and her dealer – this creepy dude who kept showing me pictures of his kids. Next morning, I woke up at 7AM and skied the Swiss Alps.

People should see Sometimes in Prague because:

Johnstone’s written some badass tunes.

Your load-in photo of the day.

We done LOADED IN.

Chance Encounter: Stephanie Johnstone

Love regenerates the more you love regenerates the more you love regenerates the more you love.

These aren't just some of Stephanie Johnstone's lyrics from Sometimes in Prague, they're also her own personal modus operandi; you can see them evinced in almost everything she does in life. We talk with her about polyamory, don't talk with her about marriage, and get some awesome music to dance to.

Describe your ideal relationship.
I'm in it! My primary partner (Dave!) and I have gorgeous trust and communication and crazy amounts of joy and love for each other which all exceed what I could have imagined before knowing him. I'm consistently inspired and challenged by him, and he knows me better than anyone else in the world. He is deeply kind and fiercely intelligent, and he truly brings out the best in me.

We've been happily and healthily polyamorous for over five years, which, for us, means that Dave is my solidity and my rock, and we're choosing daily to build a life together... and that we both love a number of different people in a number of different ways. I love that we created our own vocabulary for our relationship - we even thought (very mistakenly) that we had invented polyamory, at first!

What's the most unlikely way you've ever made a friend?
Paper airplane note passing on an airplane.

What song makes you want to dance more than any other?

Ooh! So many! I can't pick just one!
Unabashedly exuberant flailing around: Canards Sauvages by Camille

Epic running and leaping and headbanging: Is There Life On Mars? by David Bowie

Silly sexy faces and gyrations: When Doves Cry by Prince

Do you think it's possible to love more than one person at a time?

Hell yes.

Your thoughts on marriage in six syllables or fewer.
Irrelevant.

When do you know you're in love?
It feels like I fall in love with everybody ALL THE TIME.
To break down my blatant hyperbole:
I have crushes on just about everyone I know.
The more I know someone, the more beautiful I find them.
Of course I love some people much more deeply than others, but it doesn't seem useful or necessary to overtly stratify.
I don't know about some magical sort of "in love" threshold that one crosses over into happy soulmate land. That whole idea seems, to me, both absurd and limiting.

The most private thing you're willing to admit is:
For better or for worse, when asked about "private" things, my mind goes to "sexual" things. And generally, while I think it's all fine and cool to keep things to oneself, I also think that people should talk more openly about sex, and that maybe then some miscommunications and stigmas could be diffused.
So: private-ish things, hmmmm... where to begin?
That my recent forays into tantra prove to me that it is, indeed, as mindblowing as it is rumored to be? That in BDSM terms, I tend to be a top, but the hottest thing is when someone can top me? That I'm not at all shy about the label "pansexual"? That playing four hand piano arrangements of Beethoven symphonies is a major aphrodisiac?

People should see Sometimes in Prague because:
I want everyone to join this particular conversation about mindfulness and authenticity and love!

Chance Encounter: Jessica Almasy

"I am my body," sings Jessica Almasy in the role of Ryan.

"I am my skeleton. I am the synapses that fire in my brain. I'm a collection of the stories that I tell myself. Still I am something that I can't explain."

Out of character, she answers some questions about life and love and why you should see Sometimes in Prague.

What's the most unlikely way you've ever made a friend?
On a bus from Riker's Island
She said, "Have you always had that nose."

Another passenger attempts to engage you on public transportation. Is this ever not creepy? And how would you know?
I do it Allllllllllllll The TIME!
I'll be walking down the street and just shouting at people, I LIKE YOUR SHIRT!!! all the TIME I talk to strangers

Describe your ideal relationship.
whatever I am building w Adam Friedstein. freedom. love. seriousness. passionate. inquiry. devotion. a sense of humor. intellect. music. the woods. soul. food.

What song makes you want to dance more than any other?

anything by James Brown

Do you think it's possible to love more than one person at a time?
Yup. but now that I found the love love of my life, it's the core. Like, atoms can be interrelationshipped, but, they only have one core each one.

Your thoughts on marriage in six syllables or fewer.
hell fu cking eeyea - ah !

Miminka Davida Černého
What's the most intense experience you've ever had in a foreign country?
top of the Zizkov tv tower. dawn. two czech dudes. large prosthetic babies climbing the infrastructure. up all night. no one spoke English. couldn't tell you what their names were. went there for the view. 21.

When do you know you're in love?
when I look at Adam
and when I fee-el: purposeful. changed.

The most private thing you're willing to admit is:
my whole life is only meaningful in its / my / search / for / God

People should see Sometimes in Prague because:
falling off of walls in a foreign country is one thing. feeling that way during bad ass music in America .. is not the opposite thing.
